God's Call on Our Lives

Carolyn Fowler Routon was born and raised in Henry County, MO, and graduated from Clinton High School in Clinton, MO.  Terry Routon was raised in Sedalia, MO.

In 1995, God used us to start a pregnancy center/maternity home in Sedalia, MO.

Beginning in 1999, we began taking short-term mission trips to Haiti.  In 2002, God spoke to our hearts, and called us to full-time missions there.

We began a full-time mission status in the mountains of Northwest Haiti in January 2004.  God put a love in our hearts for the Haitian people.  As a vessel God could use, we were able to see over 120 people come to Christ.  We discipled many more.  We were able to meet many physical needs, as well as build a few homes for those who had inhabitable houses.  We also worked with orphans, and started Bethlehem Church.

In February 2008, God sent us back to the United States.  We were called to serve Native Americans in Oklahoma for a short time.  Next, the Lord sent us to Clinton, MO to start a pregnancy center in August 2008.  He still kept our hearts knit to Haiti, and had us taking short trips there to work with Bethlehem Church.

The Lord is constantly refining, working, and calling.  Through many confirmations, we know He has now called us to return to Haiti.  We are preparing for a full-time mission status again, and will move back to Haiti in March 2013 (Lord willing).  We will be pioneering this time.  The area is very remote, with no electricity, no plumbing, difficult roads, and expensive supplies.  We will need a place to live, a utility vehicle, items to set up housekeeping, and support to pay salaries to those who help with the ministries God has placed on our hearts--ministries to help meet physical needs, evangelism, and discipleship.

We don't want to just feed them, we want to teach them to fish.  We will be training the people in a trade so that they can earn money to provide for their families' needs.

Through Bethlehem Church, we will be doing evangelism and discipleship by providing services and ministries which the people desperately need in that area.  The ministries include, but are not limited to:

  • Prenatal and parenting classes
  • Sexual purity and gospel presentations in the local schools
  • Sewing/craft trade school

Our current focus will be to help single/pregnant mothers and orphans learn a trade.  Of course, evangelism and discipleship will be our main focus in all we do while meeting physical needs.

The need is great, and sometimes overwhelming, but the one true God is a big God.  We know the vision He has placed on our hearts; He will be faithful to provide.

Love in Christ,

Terry and Carolyn
