Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ

Pictured below is the verse from Isaiah 6:8.  Terry and I made that commitment to God 15 years ago.  It has been the best 15 of our 23 years of marriage.  There is no greater joy than being right where God wants you.  I, Carolyn had committed to full time service to God when I quit my secular job and started There is Hope Christian Ministries in Sedalia, MO.  Then in 1998 I saw some Haiti pictures that Elvis Durrill showed at New Hope Baptist Church.  I looked at Terry and said, "God is calling me to go to Haiti the next time they go."  Terry saw the same pictures and heard the same stories and turned to me and said, "as I have told you before anything that God tells you to do I will support you 100%, but I am never going to Haiti."  Well as you can see now, Terry learned to never say never.

I went to Haiti for the first time in January 1999 for 2 weeks.  I came back never to be the same.  I knew God had more but I had to wait upon Him.  I then made another 2 week trip to Haiti and on that trip God spoke very clear that He had more for us in Haiti, but Terry still had no desire to go.  I then asked some of my prayer partners to pray for Terry and that God would confirm what I heard through Terry.  Some months later we were out driving around, looking at the possibility of down sizing our home and suddenly Terry said, " we may be living in Haiti one day."  I about fainted and looked at him and said, " why did you say that?"  Terry said, " because I know that is on your heart."  Only God could have revealed that to Him and that was my confirmation.  I then told Terry the rest of the story and from that day, Terry began seeking the Lord and a few months later was on his first 2 week trip to Haiti.  The Lord told me to stay home and let him experience it without me and He would take care of the rest.  When Terry returned, he was hooked on Haiti.

Then in 2002 we both committed to the Lord, "Here I am Lord, send me". 

The enemy doesn't like it when one makes that commitment and satan tried several times to keep us from going, but in January 2004 we took our first 6 month adventure of living in Haiti.  There really was not anything that could prepare us for that.  It was the hardest 6 months of our lives, but by the grace of God we survived and returned with the commitment to serve Him in Haiti until He calls us Home or somewhere else.

In 2007 we had problems with the Haitian/American we were working with.  After receiving some threats we felt God was telling us to stay in the states until He sent us back.  Little did we know He already had plans in place for us.  In the beginning of 2008 He sent us on a short mission trip to Mexico, then 3 months to help a group of churches in Clinton, Ok area that worked with Native Americans, then to Clinton, Mo to start a pregnancy center there that later became known as Golden Valley Door of Hope.

Late in 2008 God sent us back to Haiti for a few weeks and for the next four years we were in the USA more than Haiti but would go for a few weeks at a time a couple times a year working with the church and sewing school we had started.  2013 God sent us back to Haiti full time to disciple pastors.  January 2014 we began that season and it is still growing and going strong.  God is our Rock and our Firm Foundation.

We often get questions about how we began the ministry in Haiti so we wanted to share the above testimony with you.

As we began the journey of depending on God, He has always kept His promise that He would never leave us nor forsake us and He would provide for our need.

The ministry in Haiti God has called us to has continued to go well while we have been away.  One thing as missionaries we want to accomplish is disciples making disciples and equipping/teaching those we work with to do the work while we are away and to be able to do it if God calls us away from there.  Rousier and our other worker are doing the children on Thursday's, the school presentations and the new group of young men without our help.  The gold pastors that Terry has been putting extra time into are going to the other groups and teaching what they have been taught without Terry having to go with them.  PRAISE THE LORD!!

Grandchildren are such a special gift and our granddaughter that arrived the end of June is #8 for us.  We have enjoyed the time with her and the rest of our family and friends and will be returning to Haiti the week of Aug 21st.  Thank you for your prayers and support.

Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ

2 Chronicles 16:9a: "For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him."

The above verse is one we have started sharing with the pastor groups we disciple.  Here in Haiti as in America and around the world so many of the christians have lost their first love.

We recently studied the 7 churches in Revelation with the gold group of pastors to see which of these things they see in their church.  Some said Ephesus, some Pergamon, some Thyatira etc.  But most of them seem to think they have been doing all the right things, but from a feeling of responsibility instead of love for God.  Also they had been caught up in the false teachings that have been taught here for decades.

They are telling us with their mouth they want to implement the truth that we have been teaching them and replace the false teachings.  Please pray that they will have the Joshua 1:9 boldness to lead their congregations to actually do it: "Be bold , be strong, be courageous, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go".  Also that James 1:22 will become their desire: "But, be doers of the Word and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves".

As many of you know, it is difficult when you go against the culture and traditions with the truth of the Word of God, satan doesn't like it and he will try to do whatever he can to stop you or make it difficult.  He has tried to discourage or stop us many times and now he has begun to work overtime on these pastors because he doesn't want the christians here to know the truth.  So many cannot read and rely on their pastor and leaders to teach the truth.

The gold group is helping us come up with ideas how to make the unity even stronger and ways to help those that are in need the most in the community.  We are currently working on the group to start benevolence funds or a central place to keep items people might need after a fire.  Or food to help a family for a couple days when needed.

Terry and Rousier went to help the two new groups get started in the villages of  Jan Rabel and Anse Rouge.

Two of the pastors said they are talking to pastors in other villages.

The new church in our group:  Brother Rousier is now Pastor Rousier.  He has answered to the call God placed on his life to be a pastor and has started a church in his home and it is growing through evangelism and discipleship.  His ordination service, with the help of Pastor Tim Smith via Skype, and the pastors in the group is pictured below.

Also pictured below is Pastor Lencius and his church building with a new roof.  They can now meet when it is raining.  He and the church are so thankful for your help to make that possible!!!

When we were in Port au Prince, we met with the business man that owns one of the grocery stores we go to and also able to cash our american checks there.  He shared with us that a pastor in Port au Prince came to him and asked him to help him start getting pastors together in Port for unity, prayer and revival for the country of Haiti.  He and Terry decided we would be meeting half way soon because God is at work and we are almost half way to Port now.  He also shared they had their first meeting with 106 churches represented and they are working on having 10,000 people praying in Port for that unity and revival.  Because, as we have told the pastors up here just like in America, our only hope is Jesus and Haiti needs a true revival to rid the evil on of his hold here through voodoo.  Another interesting fact: we have around106 churches building unity and praying for revival now as well.

Our New Granddaughter should be arriving within the week, according to mom, can't wait to meet and hold her.

Prayer needs:

• Pastors wives we are ministering too.  Some of them have a lot of struggles agreeing with all the Word of God, partly because they cannot read or it is done differently in the culture and have not heard the truth before we came.
• Pastors keep their commitment to be the New Testament church and implement the truth and do away with the false teachings
• God to provide the necessary financial support needed to do the ministry He has called us to do
• Trip to United States July and August (leaving Tuesday, June 27 traveling to Port and fly out on Thursday, June 29)
• VBS, bible drill
• Preparation for visiting other groups in September
• Those God is calling to come and help disciple here in Haiti
• Our gold group of pastors because they are the ones that is helping Terry now to go out and teach the other groups: pick one and please commit to pray, some have already been chosen so I will list the ones that have not:

Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ

A couple of Sundays ago after church an elderly man came and asked me for a pair of reading glasses.  He had his Bible in hand.  I had him try on the glasses, he opened his Bible to read and I noticed it was only half there.  I gave him a complete Bible and the glasses and as he read and I heard the joy in his words and the smile on his face, it was awesome.  Yes, he was blessed, but so was I as I watched and listened to him.  We call those times holy interruptions.  Hallelujah!!

Three of the pastors in the gold group went out to evangelize one day and they reported 2 accepted Christ and one recommitted her life to Christ.  Praise the Lord!!!

4560:  Represents the number of young people in 96 schools 2016/2017 that received the sexual purity until marriage message and the gospel. Several of them sign a card they will remain sexually pure for marriage.  Cost is around $400 a month.  The presenters tell me that the youth and their teachers really enjoy it and learn a lot that they have never been told before.  They are always asking for more and to come more often.  Thankful for their hunger and thirst for the Truth from the Word of God!!

1. VBS' coming up in July and August.  We provide books.
2. Bible drill will be in July.  We provide bibles and other prizes.
3. In September, Terry is going to the other 5 groups to take New Testaments, study books, encourage, share a meal and other as the Holy Spirit leads.  We will provide the rice and meat, they put together the rest.

Gold pastors group workshop May 15-22 ended with a meal together with their wives: The pastors are saying they are ready to implement what we have been teaching them the past three years.  So we started with the approach of "starting over" to become the New Testament church. They are collecting money to give the church that is most in need. They have made the commitment in unity to do what is necessary to be the New Testament church.  Glory to God!!

Making another trip to Port June 5-7 to get the rest of the New Testaments and other supplies we need.  Usually we don't make this many trips to Port but these last two months we have had to go.  Going with JOY!!

Below is a picture of Pastor Paul, associate pastor Guerney and brother Edlin going to another pastor group to teach and encourage.  It takes around 6 hours to go, teach and return.  They and 6 others go once a month to each of the 5 groups.  Two new groups will be starting soon.  It cost around $400 a month to go to all the groups and do teaching.  All the groups reported back encouraging words about the groups and they are growing in numbers of churches/pastors meeting.  Nothing is impossible with God!!!

FYI: Brother Edlin, the taxi driver, came to know Jesus as Savior a few years ago right after we started the Bethlehem Church.  He is not only our brother in Christ now, but also a dear friend.  We use him regularly when we need taxis and thankful we can bless him in that way.  God is good all the time and all the time God is good!!

Terry went today June 1st to a new pastors group that just started in May.  God is on the move and expanding our territory.

We are looking for a basketball rim, backboard and ball to bring back with us on our next trip to the States.

We will be back the months of July and August to see our new granddaughter, the rest of our family and visit some of the churches we could not make it to last time.  This is grandchild number 8.  We are so blessed!!!

Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ

Been some rough days.  satan doesn't like what God is doing among us and so he tries to cause problems, but, Greater is He that is in us than he who is in the world.  1 John 4:4.  And like Paul, we count it all JOY!  PRAISE THE LORD!

Brother Guillet is the evangelist in the pastors group.  He is in charge of the market ministry that is every Tuesday and Thursday.  The pastors take turns helping also.  It is exciting what God is doing through that ministry.  As you saw in the last update, many have come to Christ, many have been ministered to with just a piece of bread or a cup of water and others have recommitted their lives after straying away.  GOD IS ON THE MOVE, ON THE MOVE, ALLELUIA!

We have been getting some rain.  THANK YOU FOR YOUR PRAYERS.

We were able to make the trip to Port au Prince and get the tires, Bibles and other supplies we needed. Thank you to those that helped with the purchase of the tires and Bibles. It was a long trip but did not have have any problems.  THANK YOU AGAIN FOR YOUR PRAYERS.

The school ministry, presenting sexual purity and the Gospel, will be finishing up this month.  Many students signed a paper that they want to stay sexually pure for marriage.  It was exciting to see so many desiring that.  In this culture so many young men are taught that you should have sex with the girl before marriage to make sure she can get pregnant.  So to many this has been a different message and they seem to like this new message and asking for more information.  What is really sad it  has been taught in the churches as well, another false teaching.  WE HAVE SOME GODLY YOUNG MEN AND WOMEN DOING THE PRESENTATIONS AND TOUCHING THE YOUNG PEOPLES LIVES.

May 15 - 18 we will have a workshop with the gold group of pastors.  Now that they have the false teachings identified and the scripture to back the truth we are moving to the next step.  How to communicate that to their congregations and what the New Testament church should look like.  In this workshop just like the one about the false teachings, they help us identify the problems then we work together how to implement the changes using the Word of God.  On the last day we will have a meal together, mmmmm goat and banan pezi.  We and the pastors are excited about this next step.  Then they go to the other groups and teach them.  WE LOOK FORWARD TO WHAT GOD IS GOING TO DO.

The other 5 pastor groups are growing in numbers of churches in each group.  Total of 60 churches.  One of the groups is in the process of helping another group get started.  They are realizing that unity in Christ is so important and needed.  GOD IS WORKING.

Pastor Paul and his son Efez is home and doing well now.  GOD IS THE GREAT PHYSICIAN.

• Pray for Pastor Lencis, pictured below.  He is around 60 which is older for this culture, has to walk a couple of hours each way and about half way through the teachings he has a hard time staying awake.  The church building was hit during the hurricane and they are working on repairs.
• Pray for Brother Guillet as God continues to use him in the market ministry and other evangelism opportunities.
• Pray the rain will continue to come as needed now that the gardens have been planted.
• Pray for the workshop May 15-18.
• Pray for all the pastors and churches we work with, they have a lot of spiritual warfare.
• Pray for each day that everyone who walks through our door and enters our yard or just walks by outside our wall will feel the presence and power of the Holy Spirit.
• Pray that the influence of voodoo and their traditions of men/false teachings will continue to diminish.

Greetings in the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ

After a flat tire, some rain and slick conditions we arrived at our home on the mountain after 11 hours.  Praise the Lord, it was dry and flat where we had the flat tire.  Terry has taught Peter and Rousier very well, they changed the tire in 35 minutes.

We also came back hearing good news:  Rousier has accepted the call to pastor and start a house church in his home.  They started 3 weeks ago and already have had 19 in attendance.  He wants to have it like the New Testament church in Acts and being led by the Holy Spirit instead of do it like everyone else does.  He also said he wants to use the teachings Terry has been using for the pastors the past three years, which he has interpreted for, especially not wanting the false doctrines and traditions that do not agree with the Word of God.

There are many of the false doctrines and traditions in the culture here in the church that do not agree with the Word of God.  Some of the pastors are beginning to see and agree they need to go because the Holy Spirit opening their eyes through the teachings and Terry showing them in the Word of God how they are false.

All the pastor groups did very well while we were gone.  We are so encouraged how all the ministries have continued to go so well.  This is what it is all about, disciples making disciples and proving to themselves that with the help of the Holy Spirit, they can continue the ministries without us, at least for awhile.  There is still a lot of discipling to be done and we will continue to be by their side and encourage others to come and help as long as God makes a way for us to be here and as long as He says to stay.

The false doctrines have been taught for so long, they are engrained in their mind;  and because of the illiteracy; it is so important to reach the pastors and leaders with the truth through study materials, the Bible, workshops and one on one.

The Gold group, 12 in number, have come much farther because they are here more and Terry is working with them more, pouring his heart and the Word of God into them even more.  They are working on getting past the false teachings with the truth and teaching the truth to their congregations.

A false teaching we recently became aware of, because one of the gold pastors told us in a lot of churches the Christians could not take communion on Sunday unless they came to the business meeting on Saturday (the day before) and if they tried to take communion without coming to the meeting on Saturday, they would try to shame them.

Pastor Tim Smith came last November to do some teachings for the pastors.  He also mentioned there is still a lot of teaching/discipling to do.  Pastor Tim continues to Skype with them once or twice a month and just recently he had a long discussion with them about the above false teaching.  

Some of them are hard to explain but we will try to add one to each of our updates.

Thanks to Pastor Tim Smith and Pastor Greg Bunn for skyping with the pastors and leaders while we were in the States.  The pastors and leaders want to thank you also.

Below is a picture of the activity we did with the pastors on our Good Friday service with them.  They wrote some things on paper they felt the Holy Spirit was telling them they needed to get rid of and something they felt was keeping them from totally surrendering to His will for their lives or their church.

• Efez, Pastor Pauls son, across the road, is very sick.  He is around 30 years old but is not able to function to live on his own.  We have grown to love him so please pray for his healing.
• Need to purchase 4 tires in May for the truck which will be around $800.  
• House church Rousier started.
• Our printer/copier bit the dust so we need to purchase one.  We do a lot of copies when we translate materials for the pastors and leaders  so they can have a copy to study on their own.
• The pastors eyes to be opened to the truth and rid the false teachings from their churches and disciple others to do the same.

Greetings in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord

Jan/Feb 2017 (year end letter for 2016 and expectation in 2017)

God continues to expand our territory.  We want to give you an opportunity to join us or continue to do so in this great adventure of evangelizing and discipling and also meet some physical needs of the poorest of the poor in the country of Haiti.

2016 was another incredible but also devastating year:  

• More pastor groups started
• 3 Intercessory prayer groups started from the pastor groups after prompting from the Holy Spirit with one of our workers
• Young mens group started that meets weekly with our 2 workers
• Ladies film that is making a difference in the lives of some of the ladies 
• Many salvations and recommitments from the market booth and VBS'
• First annual Sword Drill with the children and youth
• Gold group of pastors going out to help Terry by meeting, teaching, encouraging and building relationships with the other groups
• More schools added where we teach saving sex till marriage and why. Our workers also get to share the gospel
• Break throughs in the teachings with the pastors and leaders especially against the false teachings in their culture

The devastating part was Hurricane Matthew, but thanks to many of you, we were able to show God's love in many ways as you will see below.

Projected monthly budget 2017:

• Rent for our house in Haiti: $250
• 
  
• Personal for Terry and Carolyn salary: January 2017 start $500.  June 2017 $700.  Dec 2017 $900. Jan 2018 $1000. (We have not received a salary since we went to Haiti in January 2004 when we sold everything and went.  We are putting this in the budget now because we have been blessed with a house in Warsaw to stay in when we are back in the states and to store Haiti stuff, plus we need to purchase a van to take us back and forth from Missouri to Florida where we fly with our mail service, MFI, so we can take more supplies which is less expensive than commercial flights.)
• 
  
• $70 internet and phone, $250 food, $80 gas propane etc
• $200 schools, $300 travel, $100 vehicle exp, $410 salaries, $200 misc
• $200 help in community medical, house repair, $500 regular ministry exp activities, pastors, leaders, children, libraries, workshops, crusades, films, market took, snacks

Total: $3300 through May. June through Nov $3500.  December $3700.

 

Needs if budget allows or if money given specific for the following for 2017:

• VBS and market ministry to help build unity among the pastors $1000  7 groups now
• Would like to build 10 houses for those destroyed in the hurricane.  They will be a one room 10x12ft. approx. $2000 each.
• Van(used) stateside to use as we visit churches, schools and individuals that support us to stay in Haiti and drive to Florida with supplies that are donated or we can't get in Haiti.
• Tires and brakes for our truck in Haiti; approximately $800

2016 spent from special donations, some donations were received in 2015:

• $3000 goats and sheep
• $1500 on bibles and new testaments
• $4000 on library supplies: evangelism and discipleship/equipping and unity materials and workshops
• $4000 building houses
• $1000 benches for several churches

2016 hurricane Matthew

• $350 on bibles and other personal items lost/destroyed
• $2500 on renting or repairing houses/church buildings
• $1500 restoring businesses that were lost
• $2000 replacing animals died

Remember:

• God is always at work
• He is always pursuing a love relationship with us
• He speaks through the Holy Spirit in our circumstances, our church, prayer
• He invites us to join Him
• We have to have a crises of belief
• Then we have to show that belief by making adjustments to do what He wants to do through you
• Then trust Him to accomplish what He said He would do

What are you going to do?  Trust Him and do what He says or run (get swallowed by a whale) and hope He forgets He asked you.
